Advanced Dentistry

An important part of our wellness goals for our patients is good dental health. Many people don’t realize that dental disease can be a large contributor to kidney disease, heart disease and other debilitating conditions, especially in our senior pets.

We feel that it is important to start good dental hygiene habits at an early age. On your first visit with a new puppy or kitten we will discuss easy techniques to work into your routine to help slow the onset of dental disease.

As pets get older, despite good home dental care, most will require a thorough dental cleaning at some stage of their life. This usually includes sedation, cleaning with a hydrosonic scaler, polishing, and a fluoride treatment.   How frequently this is required varies tremendously. Breed, diet, age, and individual tendencies are all factors in determining the rate of dental tartar accumulation and gingivitis. At the time of your pet’s annual wellness exam we will evaluate and make recommendations to ensure your pet continues to have fresh breath and healthy teeth and gums.

Even with the best of care, other dental problems can occur, these include; fractured teeth, tooth abscesses, malalignment, and a variety of other dental problems.
We have experience dealing with many of these issues. However, for out of the ordinary cases we have a “people” dentist as a consultant to advise us on problems from root canals to fillings.

Good dental health is an important part of our plan to provide the best possible care for your pet, and to aid in providing a long healthy life.
